Little Donation Great Hope (LDGH) is a nonprofit organization that has been operative for twenty years. We take care of 1100 needy families living in Northern Israel. Our families number Christians, Druze, Jews and Muslims - we believe first and foremost that we are all human beings and help and support should be available to all without regard for religion, gender or race.
Our Vision
To look after the welfare of human beings, without regard for religion, gender or race; to spread coexistence through mutual caring and support for the weaker sectors of all societies; to take care of needy people in Israel’s northern periphery.
Who Are We?
Little Donation Great Hope (LDGH) is the brainchild of Manady Hasoun, an amazing Druze women from the town of Daliyat Al-Carmel, just south of Haifa. With never ending energy, she seeks out the families who need help and finds donors for every item they need. For twenty years we have helped families purely by giving donations in kind of food, furniture, appliances, school supplies and more. Now, as we plan to increase our activities, we have become a registered nonprofit organization so that we can begin to accept financial donations, while continuing with our existing programs and supporters.
Who Do We Care For?
LDGH takes care of 1100 households all over Northern Israel - in Jewish towns such as Bet Shean, Safed and Hatzor, Druze towns such as Daliyat Al-Carmel, Christian towns such as Jish, and other towns and villages in the Galilee area with populations that cover all religions and races.
The Need
Certain sectors of society need extra help to meet their basic needs. This may be due to poverty, unemployment, poor health, disabilities, or age. LDGH aims to meet the most basic needs to enable our families to live with a measure of comfort and less worry. This in turn means they can work and study to the best of their ability.
Projects in Focus
- Food Baskets - Our flagship activity is the provision of monthly food baskets to 500 families, and bi-monthly food baskets to a further 600 families. All the food items are donated to us by farmers and manufacturers. In addition, certain families receive meat and chicken before the festival of Id Al-Adha. In order to increase the number of food baskets we provide, we are seeking more donations.
- Children - LDGH has two services particularly for children from needy families. Firstly, we provide clothing as needed, especially coats and shoes in the winter. Secondly, we provide school supplies in September so that each child can return to school fully equipped and begin the year on the right foot. All clothing and food supplies are given as donations in kind. In order to increase the number of children we help, and the frequency we can offer that help, we turn to you.
- Households - LDGH provides furniture and appliances for households who cannot afford basic items such as chairs, beds, refrigerators and washing machines. These items increase the quality of life for every person in the home. Many are given to us as donations in kind. Your financial support will allow us to help more households.
- Renovations - Many needy households, particularly the elderly and people with disabilities, are unable to take care of their own homes. When we visit with food baskets or other services we are often confronted by problems with plumbing, electricity, windows and leaks. With this in mind, LDGH plans to open a new project in 2020 whereby we will provide volunteer handymen who will visit the homes and fix problems as needed. LDGH will cover the costs of all materials and we hope to find professionals who will donate their services pro bono.
- Students - At LDGH we encourage young adults to pursue higher education in order to achieve a career and financial security. Many students from needy families must balance their studies with a job. In order to help them, LDGH plans to introduce a grant of 1,000 Skekels that will be given to each student once. The student can decide from a number of options how they would best like to use this grant - towards college fees, towards dormitory fees, for a laptop or tablet, or towards books and other study materials. In this way, they are given some independence but we are assured that all monies will go towards their educational pursuits.
